ثالثاً: ابرز مثال للجريمة التي تتعلق بمخالفة هذه القوانين هي الموجودة في ولاية كاليفورنيا في عدة حالات منها حالة الطوارئ- هامش رقم ٣. وقد تم تعديل النص الخاص بها عام ٢٠١٨ نظراً لما كشف عنه قصورها عن مكافحة الممارسات غير السليمة في إيجار الأماكن عقب الحرائق البرية عام ٢٠١٧- ورغم قصور النص في صورته السابقة على التعديل ورغم عدم وجود آلية فعالة لمراقبة الأسعار، إلا أن هذا لم يمنع المسئولين عن إنفاذ القانون (المدعي العام في المقاطعة مثلاً) من تشكيل قوة عمل مهمتها تتبع التقارير الإخبارية والشكاوى الفردية، والتحقيق وتوجيه الإتهام عند ثبوت المخالفات- هامش رقم ٤

Even though California prohibits price hikes after an emergency is declared, the state, like many others, has virtually no price monitoring structure for oversight. Attorneys and law enforcement generally rely on news reports and word of mouth to learn about exploitative pricing practices. The District Attorney of Sonoma County has attempted to remedy this by creating its own task force focused on combatting and prosecuting price gouging.
