In order to understand today's debate about Sharia, one has to understand today's debate about Islam. Understanding today's debate about Islam requires understanding the calls for reform among Muslims that took place during the 19th and 20th centuries. Mapping Islamic reform pioneers and movements during this period is critical to for such understanding as it represents the roots of many movements and developments that exist today. Last week, Khattar Torbey did a very good job mapping these movements to the students of Islamic Law class at the University of Kansas.
